Crime Stoppers Month was officially designated by Crime Stoppers International in Edmonton, Alberta in 1986 and since that time has been recognized by world leaders, including the President of the United States, George W. Bush and Canada’s Prime Minister Paul Martin.
Crime Stoppers Month is officially launched in Lake County early in January and provides also a number of other events through the month as part of the celebration. Lake County gets proclamations from the local mayor's, the governor and letters of support from the police chiefs or other top law enforcement leaders. The media also help promote Crime Stoppers during January by publicizing events and carrying stories on the success of the program.
